Genecia Alluora: Hi and welcome to today's episode. Today I want to be talking and sharing about how being Miss Singapore actually helped me to be seen as a leader in the area of my expertise. So this is actually a reflection of, you know, our past titles and accolades and how are we leveraging on these titles and accolades to help us to be seen as a leader? So winning Miss Singapore Universe third place was pretty amazing for me because I had no pageant experience. I had low self esteem because of being constantly bullied in school, winning Miss Singapore International on the same year or in the same year in 2006, I went on to represent Singapore in Japan as well as China. This allowed me to practice the way I speak, the way I present myself on a global platform with more than 90 delegates around the world. I learnt a couple of things. First thing, I learned how to do teamwork. Even if you're a stranger to me because we need to have a bigger vision towards our goal. So don't go into very detail and trying to be OCD, which is obsessive compulsive, about certain things in your direction or the things you want to share.
[00:03:30]
Genecia Alluora: It's okay to be imperfect, doing the things that you love while you know, managing as we go along. So I think not being perfect allowed me to transcend my own mindset, because at the place of the international stage, I would want to be perfect all the time. But however, situation keeps changing because in culture in Japan versus in China, you know, you have to be flexible in the way you present yourself, although keeping in mind your common baseline. So number two was to keep my common baseline. I was able to identify themes across my personal branding and the way I present myself across the different ways I want to share my story. For example, I worked when I was 14 years old, supporting myself through school as an aerobics yoga instructor and then later on, you know, overcoming bullying and cyber bullying as well throughout the school days and, you know, committing suicide and being depressed. To now having then the opportunity to leverage on a platform globally as Miss Singapore, or as in the Miss Universe or Miss International or Miss Chinese Cosmos platforms to to kind of propel my messages to around the world.
[00:04:50]
Genecia Alluora: So by this establishing the baseline of what I want to be seen as, this allowed me to help my clients, even up to today, to establish a certain baseline in their work, in their life, so that they also can be seen as an expert in the area of their expertise. Lastly, I'm able to look at how can I pull in different pieces of me to be recognized and seen as a leader? Now, different pieces means different elements of my personality. You know, I'm actually an introvert. I'm not an extrovert. It was because of my 14 years. I started work and support myself through school. I was trained to be an extrovert, so I'm an introvert trained extrovert. Now, introvert simply means that during my free time, I just want to spend time on my own to recharge versus an extrovert, if you're always, you know, wanting to go out and meet friends even though during your free time you're more so of an extrovert. Well, I am an introvert. So being an introvert and how do I express myself differently by understanding adding personality elements into my storytelling, my platform building to be able to connect with people around the world at different levels, from sponsors to organizers, to your minders to fellow delegates.
[00:06:14]
Genecia Alluora: Ten years moving forward, I'm still in touch with a lot of them, and we're still friends. When you are truly authentic and being able to tell your story in a more compelling way, you will be definitely recognized as the leader. So moving forward to do my business as an image consultant. Before, I worked with CEOs of companies, politicians as well as decision makers. They recognized my skill set at a very young age because I was working 14 years old, building myself up and supporting myself through school. Plus, you know, often being bullied. Plus was, you know, overcoming suicide and depression and then overcoming my self esteem to become the woman leader that I am leader activated dream to shine, becoming the Miss Singapore. And then the image consultant allowed all these leaders to recognize my journey. And sometimes it's through all these vulnerable side of me and the startling storytelling pieces. It allows them to see a different side of me other than just my success, and allowed them to want to hire me because of the journey I've been through and the woman that I've become.
[00:07:32]
Genecia Alluora: So I just want to encourage you today. What are some of the pieces in your life or milestones in your life that you can list out that will help you to propel you forward in your storytelling to be seen as a woman leader, to be leader activated and dream to shine so that your clients or potential clients will want to hire you over the other person sitting next to you. Well, think about that. So thank you very much for joining me today. I hope I've done everything in my power to make it well worth your time. Looking forward to seeing you in the next episode.
