[00:01:17]
Genecia Alluora: Hello, gorgeous. Welcome to Soul Why The Secrets of the Soul Rich Woman blueprint. I'm your host, Genecia Alluora. Today I want to talk about 80-20 rule. Now, you know, I used to hate selling. I hate. I super, super, super, super dislike and super hit selling. Because in the past when before the timeline of 2012, I was an image consultant. And before that I was kind of like a celebrity. You know, I was on TV, on radio, in magazines, radio host, TV host, you know, attending variety shows. And I was getting a certain exposure, I would say. So selling wasn't a natural thing for me because it was easy for clients to come to me when I'm seen as a celebrity, seen as an influencer in that area, which was in the beauty image consultancy line. But when I transit it to business really full time, like literally crossing the 1 million mark and then later on multi million mark and then moving to building a cafe retail chain from scratch, like literally from ground zero to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and we had 18 franchisees and licensees. And then after four years we exited to the public listed company owner.
[00:02:57]
Genecia Alluora: And this whole journey taught me how to balance between the 80% rule and the 20% rule. The context Is that why I'm sharing that I hate to sell and I don't like to sell because I don't know how magical it is to know the art and science of sales and 20% rule is that you should be only spending 20% of your time in operations and not be stuck in your business and be spending 80% of your time doing sales and marketing. Like I shared with you, I learnt this when I ran my cafe retail chain because to grow from one outlet to seven outlets to 18 franchisees and licensees, it's not by being inside the business and doing nothing. It's all about marketing, marketing, marketing, sales and marketing. So 80% sales and marketing and be on top of the business and not be in the business. When I did my own, did eventually bring my business online in 2013, when I shared with you when I crossed my first million dollars. Well, same thing. 80% of my time was spent in sales and marketing, and 20% of my time is spent in operations. Of course, that's after setting up sales and processes. Right? That's important.
[00:04:41]
Genecia Alluora: And now growing Soul Rich Woman and having a virtual team worldwide and of course supporting 1 million women across the world to own and love the F-word. It's also marketing and standing there and being there visible and being on top of the business and not be stuck inside the business. And that's why teams are so important and that's why I keep talking about delegating. Delegating, right, delegating 80% of your to do list so that you can function in your zone of genius. So, yes, in all businesses and if you're a 9 to 5 employee, stay at home mom, a female entrepreneur and a solopreneur, no matter what stage you're at. Remember that 80% of your time must be spent on sales and marketing. And how did I overcome this? And was first even aware it was because I brought in a mentor, my mentor, James, James Wee. He was the one who guided me and coached me, kick my ass and make sure I learned the art of science, of selling. Because by selling and promoting what we call marketing it in the right way to the right people, to the right audience, and you know, that is the best way customers can be served by us. Because if they were to buy and purchase and buy the notion of our products and services, that is when they are going to be benefited.
[00:06:27]
Genecia Alluora: I remember the time when I was a Miss Singapore and before when I won Miss Singapore, you know, I was supporting myself through school since I was 14 years old. Well, and my friends believed in me. I didn't see the potential that I had in me, but my friends believed in me, so they enrolled me into Miss Singapore Beauty pageant. Okay? And during that time I didn't have a lot of money. And I had some bravery and courage within me. So I mustered up my courage and started knocking on doors. To do what? To ask for sponsorships, because I was not well groomed. I was afraid terribly of public speaking. Needless to talk about sales. Oh my God. Or marketing myself or branding myself. I can't even speak properly for nuts on stage. Because I'm an introvert, right? I know it sounds like it's not true, but as we go along, as you as you listen in to my episodes, I'm a you will realize I'm a trained extrovert, but deep down inside of Genecia is a super introvert because whenever I have free time, I just like to be alone.
[00:07:45]
Genecia Alluora: Okay, Sidetrack. Let's go back to the story. So I was knocking on doors looking for sponsorship and eventually I found this lady. Her name is Rebecca, and I present her, presented her of an idea that if she were to sponsor me and if I were to win, I would credit her. And she gave me all her DVDs, her CDs and everything possible for the topic of public speaking. And then I took it happily, thinking that it was free. Right? Ha! And then Rebecca said, Genecia, can you pass me your bag? And I'm like, okay. Because, you know, she sponsored me. I was so happy I was in cloud nine. And she took my bag and took out my wallet and opened up my wallet and emptied everything from my wallet, which was about $60. And that's all I have for that month in my phone for my food and traveling and stuff like that. And I said. Rebecca. Why do you take my money? And she said, Well, Genecia, you know that my courses and my programs are worth thousands and thousands of dollars. And if today I don't teach you the concept of value exchange. You will not treasure what I've given you. And look at her staring at her point blank like my brain just could not really understand what she was really talking about.
[00:09:27]
Genecia Alluora: But I knew she meant well. But you know what? Because she took my money and I just felt like it's so painful because that's all I have for the month. And she took everything. So I kind of like got kind of like sparked to really take action and work really hard. Read through the notes, plow through the CDs, and really go deep on presenting myself and learning about the art of personal branding through speech and public speaking. I won Miss Singapore International in 2006. I came in third place in Singapore Universe in 2006 as well. And this was not because by chance, it was because I managed to stand on stage and be able to articulate myself well. So, what does this point means? I talk about so many things. I tell you different stories. But the part about value exchange is directly related. I will say not really directly related, but is somewhat related to the point I'm trying to make about, you know, being able to let customers invest in themselves and that when you know that sales and marketing is the lifeblood of your business, 80% versus 20% so that you can be on top of the business and not be stuck in your business, that is when your business, your passion and your talent. No matter if you're a solopreneur or stay at home mom. A female entrepreneur. No matter what stage you're at this will prosper your business. If you really understood it and take action on it.
[00:11:40]
Genecia Alluora: So I hope this inspires you to think about how you're running a business. Are you always inside a business and stuck in busyness? Or are you focusing 80% your lifeblood of the business to triple, double, quadruple your business growth and to turn your talent into a business that pays the bills and turn the passion into a paycheck that pays your bills? Something worthy to think about. All right. I love you. And sending you good vibes. Take care and I'll speak to you soon. Bye for now.
