Genecia Alluora: Hello and welcome to today's episode. My name is Genecia Alluora. I'm so glad for you to join me today. Now, today, it's all about building a personal brand. How and why a personal brand online is very important. And like I shared with you my the story of my mom, who is I would call her a little bit ancient for her generation because it's really, you know, she is offline and we managed to bring her online, therefore giving her another possibility of being seen as a leader in the online world where she's exposed to the world and also getting another source of recurring income. Okay. So that's important. Now for you. The question is the answer the question that you need to ask yourself is what does it mean and how does it look like? Right. A lot of people think it's just posting on Facebook, posting on LinkedIn, posting on Instagram, and therefore I am online. But is it really the case? Is that really the situation to be seen as a leader in the online world? That, you know, to be seen as a leader means you are on this social media. Now, I want to highlight that it's never about the graphic. It's never about the logo, It's never about that. That website is never about the colors that you choose, the graphic that you use, the video that you use, that you post that will determine whether you become a leader or not.

Genecia Alluora: In fact, the way to be seen as a leader by building a personal brand. The first step is to decide do you want to be a thought leader, a business owner, or to be seen as an influencer? Because a lot of times we just post randomly. We post as a mother, we post as a teacher, we post in the roles that we are doing. Right. If, you know, like if I'm doing a business online, I'm just posting what I'm doing today, right? But does it account or to add on, does it move towards closer to another level? Does it move closer to another strategy, which is who do you want to be seen as? Right, because begin with an end in mind. Do you want to be seen as a thought leader or influencer or the business owner? So I was a business owner. I am still a business owner. I was a cafe retail chain partner and we had cafe retail chain in three countries. We had 18 franchisees and licensees. After four years, we exited to a public listed company owner. So I'm a business owner, but is that what I want to be known for? Primarily in personal branding? In my book, I talk about three types of personal branding. The primary, the secondary and tertiary.

Genecia Alluora: So if you are just starting out when you are executive, when you're working as a 9 to 5 employee, when you are just starting out on a junior position, you want to be known as hard working, teachable, learnable. And you build those as your personal brand. And then when you move to a slightly more senior position, all these personal brand, your learnable, your teachable, your hard working will move to a secondary brand of yours where you need to build a new kind of level of personal brand where you want to be seen as, you know, someone who can do a a be a team player, someone who can form processes in your team, someone who is reliable and trustworthy. So that in itself is already another level or what we call in the personal primary personal brand. Whereas the learner, the teachable, the hardworking is already known. It's already there. It's like the baseline, the foundation. So you're just layering one brick after another brick. In your personal brand, your primary will move to secondary and then eventually move to tertiary.

Genecia Alluora: Okay, so that's how it will progress. So every time when you are moving and doing this online thing, bringing your presence online, being seen as a leader online, you need to decide whether you want to be seen as a thought leader, business owner or influencer. So like an influencer is somebody like, you know, those on YouTube. You want to become an influencer on Instagram. You know, you you could be just posting everyday things day to day and then you influence people to purchase anything. Could be, you know, you're like the cookbooks, the recipes, the the, the lipsticks, the skincare products. So whatever that may be. Right. So then itself, that in itself is an influencer, probably making money through endorsements, brand ambassadorships and maybe even some sponsorships or even some affiliate marketing fees that they get a small commission off of every time you click on their link to make some purchases, whether is it through for their clothes or whatever, that they are selling on those platforms.

Genecia Alluora: A thought leader is a subject matter expert. So for me, I am a business owner. Okay. But I don't want to really push that out so much. So I kind of market myself and I help other women to be seen as a thought leader, meaning that I'm always called on to speak about women empowerment. I talk a lot about, you know, being seen as a leader online, how to be authentic and make connections online. So if connection is if something that you value, you want to learn how I do my brand, how I do my business online so that, you know, we've built a network of 200,000 women across the region. And, you know, how did I achieve that? Right? So by being seen as a thought leader, I often get invited to speak or being interviewed on multiple or different publications across the world to speak about my subject matter. So personal branding. Being seen as a leader online Authenticity online. How do you even get started to build a network like Soul Rich Woman. So that's that is what I meant by thought leader. So then later on as a business owner, okay, what else do you want to be seen as? Business owner? We talk about delegating, right? I talk about, you know, building a cafe retail chain. So all these things are are different areas that you need to work on to build your online brand.

Genecia Alluora: Because whatever we thought about offline, we talk about image consulting, right? We talk about colors. We talk about, you know, you dress authoritatively. Are you being presented? How well is your first impression? How was your handshake? But now in the digital world, there's no handshake. You can't assess whether you can hold the person's hand or look at how good the person's smile or, you know, being able to hear them speak in that what I call that offline sense. We have to really look at this from a digital point of view, which is the online point of view, right? So then the way to do it is to make sure that you begin with an end in mind. The things that you are posting, the things you are writing about, making sure that your mess is turned into the right message for people to see consistently. Now, this is important because online is all about consistency. Attention span is very, very short. So if you're not consistent, you're not able to, you know, be there to show your expertise. Either is an influencer, a business owner or a thought leader, people will forget you.

Genecia Alluora: So do you want to be memorable or do you want to be forgettable? Do you want to be memorable or do you want to be forgettable? Do you want to be a super earner? That means you can make money online or do you just want to be like mediocre? So you have to make a decision on that. Only then you can move and maneuver your way to be even a better version 2.0 of yourself in the online world if you know how to master and craft your brand story and the way to position yourself in the online space as a leader in order for you to be different, in order to make a difference.
