[00:01:26]
Genecia Alluora: Hey, gorgeous. In today's episode, I want to talk about how to get over screw ups in your business. Sponsors alert. Making mistakes in business is inevitable. How do you get back on the money making train after a big screw up? So I'm here to talk about how to get your confidence and your mojo back. There will always be broken links. You will send the wrong emails. You'll annoy people. There'll be people sabotaging you, spreading rumors to hurt your business, saying nasty things to discredit you. There will be things that will happen in your business. You get violation points when you do your Amazon live or you do your TikTok live. People are sabotaging your sales figure. They try to plant trolls into your live streams, or maybe you get your prices wrong.
[00:02:22]
Genecia Alluora: Now, that's really a big one. You might even screw up your launches and maybe even screw up your marketing by sending or saying something wrong in your messaging. You know what? It's all going to be okay. Here's how you pick up. pieces that matters. So I've noticed a lot of entrepreneurs tend to make business screw ups in three common areas, boundaries, investing in wrong things, pricing our products and services wrong. It's common for entrepreneurs to internalize these really normal problems and make it mean something about themselves. For example, I'm not good in business, Genecia. I'm a failure.
[00:03:06]
Genecia Alluora: Look, I'm not meant to be big. My dream is bigger than my purpose here on planet Earth. Oh, maybe it's the sign from the universe I should quit. And it can really be tempting to throw it all in and just not to risk it anymore. Now, before you do that, my dear, stop because mistakes are a part of the passage. A rite of passage that can be actually be important milestones for you to celebrate. It can even help you to build resilience and grit for the next path ahead. Remember, when there's pain, there's truth, and there's always something to learn. And if you're feeling sick and anxious, let's do a reframe.
[00:03:57]
Genecia Alluora: Business screw up number one, boundaries. We all know that we should be or have good boundaries with clients, but it's really easy to screw this up. Why do so many entrepreneurs have a tough time setting boundaries with clients? Maybe you're conditioned to be nice to people. Maybe you're a people pleaser who feels like a mean bitch for saying no or putting boundaries in place. Now, I've struggled with boundaries, but with good money boundaries, clients can also take advantage of you. If without good money boundaries, they can drain you even if they don't mean to. Your resentment can build up, you can get burned and maybe end up quitting your business.
[00:04:45]
Genecia Alluora: Here are some things that I see around boundaries all the time that are really small but they all add up. Number one, running over allocated time with your clients. You might think that you are being generous in giving them more time and space, but it's not always the best way to serve people. It can be really overwhelming for them as well as for you. Number two, overdelivering. Maybe you let clients add more work without extra pay. Now, this is known as scope creep. Oh, I just do it for them. Oh, I just do it for them. Oh, I just do it for them. Oh, I just do it for them. You know, I'm just being nice. I want to be able to help them. I'm always here for them. But in your scope, you didn't really talk about that and you overdeliver. And before you know it, you are super burned out.
[00:05:39]
Genecia Alluora: Number three, being too available for your clients. Maybe people are messaging you day and night wanting your support and help. Most of the time, these boundaries problems come from a place of wanting to be generous and available, but it can have a detrimental effect on your business. You get burned out and you don't have bandwidth for anything else. When you're over delivering, you might find that you attract clients who still feel like it's never enough. They are never happy, and that I know that sucks. Good boundaries are a business essential, but it takes on trial and error to learn them. What's the biggest boundary violation that's causing you stress at the moment? Is it around invoicing? Is it around time? Is it around people paying late? What can you automate? What can you put in place?
[00:06:36]
Genecia Alluora: How can you teach yourself to say no? And don't worry, I've got tons of resources, including scripts, to help you at the end of this. Setting boundaries doesn't make you mean. It doesn't make you a bad person. It's a necessary part in your business and it can make your business interactions feels nice, clean, clear, and your clients feel like they are being taken care of. It's never too late to renegotiate your boundaries and fix this. Start with a thing that stresses you out the most. Remember, everything begins with one and baby steps always works the best. Now, business screw up number two, investing in the wrong things. This one can be really painful. At the start of your business, especially, you don't necessarily feel secure enough in your decision making.
[00:07:33]
Genecia Alluora: You don't know what to do, so you jump on a course because everyone else is buying it, or you think you really need a big sexy website. Now, this is where you need discernment about where you invest your money. I always see people buying stocks first and forgetting that they need to do planning, branding, and marketing before taking the next step. I see a lot of people do get into trouble with this and in tons of debt.
[00:04:45]
Genecia Alluora: It's important to invest in business, but making decisions out of fomo, fear of missing out, FOMO, can really lead to investment in the wrong things like hiring the wrong staff, hiring wrong people to put in the wrong places, and it's taking you more stress, giving you more stress and worry more than anything else. Or even taking business advice from the wrong people just because business is free. Maybe the person you feel that, oh, paying for business mentor is really expensive, you don't have the money, so you just go around asking people for information or so called the business advice.
[00:08:50]
Genecia Alluora: However, it is the wrong people, or maybe signing up for things that you don't really need. So learning the power of discernment will save you money and it will supercharge your success because you'll start to attract more of what you want because you are clearer. So here's a tip for you, my dear. Before I invest in anything, I ask myself two questions. Firstly, do I need this right now? Just to see if I'm investing out of FOMO, which is fear of missing out. The second question I ask myself is, how many of my own products and services do I need to sell in order to make the money back? Yes, maybe you don't really need it right now. You're just getting caught up in the marketing hype, and sometimes it's not actually going to help you to make money in your own business.
[00:09:48]
Genecia Alluora: Trust me, we all have been there. Please forgive your self any of those past money decisions. It doesn't mean that you shouldn't invest in your business going forward. You can just learn from it. When I make a bad business or bad investment decision, I say to myself, lucky we are rich, lucky we still have money in our bank. Because I started that right at the start of my business. I started saying that right at the start where I started my business because lucky we are rich, because way before I was making money, it made me laugh when I made a bad business decision and it put things into perspective.
[00:10:37]
Genecia Alluora: Besides nothing's forever. There's always more money. So whenever I made a bad business investment decision, I just told myself, All right, luckily we are rich. I am a soul rich woman. I love myself and I set myself free. This is my time and I'm ready for the next step. Business screw up number three, undercharging. Oh, this is a bitch. I can tell you this. After coaching thousands and thousands of clients, I can tell you, in soul rich woman, all the clients who came before you have this thing about undercharging. They don't see their worth, they don't see their value. They always say, Don't worry, I can always do this free for someone else. Or maybe they can pay back when they have made their money. This is something that as a money mindset mentor, I can seriously help you with.
[00:11:33]
Genecia Alluora: When you underprice what you do, you get burnt out because you have to serve so many people. You feel resentful because you're giving away too much and you're not receiving in return. It can get you stuck in a scarcity cycle where you feel poor, you feel like you don't have enough money to reinvest in yourself. You don't have your money for play fund. That means you don't have money to play or to bring your kids on the holiday. When you ask yourself, is this going to be worth it? And that comes a sour feeling that may be indoctrinated within you as you are giving away too much. And this will cause you to give up in your business and you may just go down this rabbit hole that's going to go nowhere. Therefore, you need to take note that this attitude can get you stuck in a scarcity cycle because you have to take on more clients just for more money and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.
[00:12:38]
Genecia Alluora: So before you get stuck that of all the mistakes in the pricing for your business and the services and business offerings that you may have, just know that you are in charge. You are the boss. Don't let other people's pricing ceiling be your ceiling. You can change your prices anytime you like. Prices are just made up. You can increase your prices however you want, the way you desire, make sure you give value. There are no real rules around it. If you are getting great results, you've got a big long wait list and you know that you're giving more value than it is reflected in your prices, you are allowed to change your prices. You're allowed to renegotiate with clients no matter how long you've worked with them. You're allowed to say no.
[00:13:30]
Genecia Alluora: You're allowed to push back and tell people that, hey, this extra work is out of scope, that you'll be charging if they want it fast. It is your business. There are customers at every single price point. You don't have to under charge because you're worried that nobody will work with you anymore. It's totally safe for you to charge great prices. Ask yourself two questions, how does it feel that it's safe for me to charge good prices? It's safe for me to increase my price. Say it with me right now, it's safe for me to charge good prices. It's safe for me to increase my prices. How does it feel to affirm that these two statements are the good ones for you?
[00:14:20]
Genecia Alluora: Remember, pricing problems are not permanent. I've always got a great resource for you at soulrichwoman.com. Come and get your free step by step guide in increasing your prices with integrity and class. I've made it super easy for you. Now, if you want also a copy of that, and you can also email me at hello@soulrichwoman.com. How do you get back your confidence when you've made these mistakes? I know, many clients come to me and say, Genecia, I've made these mistakes. I feel lost, I feel confused, I'm demoralized, I'm tired. Well, there are a couple of things that you can do instantly to feel better, no matter how big or small the mistake was.
[00:15:10]
Genecia Alluora: Number one, regain confidence by reframing your thinking. Mistakes are just part of your apprenticeship as an entrepreneur. Treat it like a learning curve. You need to take those risks as an entrepreneur. Otherwise, you would not have all those milestones for you to guide the other entrepreneurs or guide your clients. So if you have screwed up something recently, reframe it as an important rite of passage. Everyone makes mistakes. Perfection isn't the goal. Perfection isn't going to make you more money. Showing up consistently, trying things, telling people how you can help them even imperfectly. And that's how you make money, not by being perfect.
[00:15:56]
Genecia Alluora: Number two, regain confidence by forgiveness. Forgive. Forgive everyone involved, including yourself, even though you hate the person, or even though you feel emotionally charged by saying the person's name, who have sabotaged you, including those clients who have badmouthed you just because your prices have increased or have left you because for whatever reason that the boundaries that they no longer like it because you've decided that you want to win it for yourself. Otherwise, you find yourself chewing it over it every single night at 3 AM for the next year, or you might have just sleepless nights, or just keep beating yourself up over and over again, or play it in your head like a broken jukebox.
[00:16:47]
Genecia Alluora: I want you to let it go. Make a conscious decision to forgive yourself. It is important to release the resentment so you can move on. You can cut the cords. You can shift and you can buy burning the shit if you want to. You can get as voodoo as you like, but it's really good to let it go so it doesn't become a part of who you are. You can take a look and take a listen of our three step simple forgiveness process in my earlier episodes. Regain confidence number three, take responsibility. If you've made a mistake, I want you to own it. I had people in my business make big mistakes and not tell me about it. I was way more upset about that than the mistake itself. If you've screwed up something, admit to it, apologize and move on so you don't have to think about it anymore.
[00:17:50]
Genecia Alluora: Sometimes that energy can feel really icky and gross. If you have to apologize to your community for screwing something up, just do it. You can hide under the covers, hide your cat, hide your dog, but you really need to release it so that you can get up and do it again. It's really totally just fine. Number four, regain confidence. Look for the lesson. Now it's going to help you to reframe everything. When you look for the lesson, it becomes really powerful for you and other people. It becomes a chapter in your life that will help you and those who are later. Whenever I screw up or whenever I cock up, I think, This is going to be such good chapter for my next book, or my next TikTok video, or even my LinkedIn post, or even my Facebook post, or my Instagram stories.
[00:18:49]
Genecia Alluora: Everything is useful even if it can be used as a cautionary tale for other people, or you can share what you've learned. Here's a funny example. I recently got a lot of things done on TikTok, and I have done, in the last three months, we've done crossed six figures every single month in our launch of our beauty products, our skincare business on TikTok Singapore's platform. And there were screw ups, right? There were a lot of violations, a lot of when you're doing live streaming because you don't own the platform and the platform is not yours. When you're doing live streaming, there could be violations coming in. People can sabotage you. People can complain about you and trolls can be there for you because they are there to get you to make you go down so then your sales will drop.
[00:19:47]
Genecia Alluora: So I made it turn it around. I was feeling upset for a while, to be honest. I was depressed. I was slightly demoralized because it affected me. I'm asking myself, Why? Why don't these people like to hurt people? Why don't these trolls like to talk about others? Then I reminded myself, Hey, there are some lessons to be learned in this. When there's hurt and pain, there's truth. I need to be stronger. It made me stronger to be who I am. Ignore them, block those who are trolling on your live stream, and just keep putting out content and give value to others so that you want to continuously serve those who are really your customers. And I put it into a cautionary tale.
[00:20:38]
Genecia Alluora: I put it into my post like this in my podcast. I share it in my TikTok videos. Sometimes for you, you may even make a song out of it. And you can share and help others who are new live streamers or new business owners or even your clients. Well, everything that happened to you, you can make it into a tilt. Never get put down just because trolls are trawling you or when you get violations on your live stream. And even if you feel that the world is out there to get you and it's against you and the universe is ou think that it's universe is against you, it is not true. Everything comes from your inner confidence that allowing you to stand up and the way you pick yourself up and people will see that the energy that you put out there for them, for your clients, isn't it?
[00:21:35]
Genecia Alluora: So everything that you've got screwed up, you can learn from it. And of course, don't just make some lemon needs that is diluted. It's not going to work. You got to be practical about it. You've got to be vulnerable, practical, changing up things, and yet at the same time, recognizing your inner fears and your worries and you say, know what? So what? I've screwed up. Let me learn from it. Face your monsters and be a bigger person than who you were before. Arise now. Phoenix rising up for burnt ashes. It is you. You can do practical things. Remember, change your terms and conditions so that it doesn't happen again. Nothing is wasted. Nothing is forever either.
[00:22:22]
Genecia Alluora: People will forget and this tool shall pass and you will come out so much wiser and stronger and so much more experienced. Even if this feels shitty right now, I hear you and I feel you and I'm with you. And if you feel bad and if you feel screwed up in ways you've hurt people, well, apologize and let it go. Nothing is irreversible. Hey, you know where to find me? I'm on TikTok. Find me @geneciaalluora. Write to me at hello@soulrichwoman.com. Now, even if you feel like you've screwed up your pricing, or your life, or your life or your business, remember, my dear, it doesn't have to be forever. Even if you've screwed up in some boundaries, it doesn't have to be forever. It's your business. You're allowed to change anything you like. Your business, your rules.
